In June, Melodic Movements Performing Arts Program wrapped up our 2023-2024 season. While there were many things to celebrate this year, we’re especially pleased to achieve a goal that has been a dream for a long time.
We held our inaugural Dover recital “Genesis: In the Beginning” on June 23 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts. The performance comes after a busy year of hosting classes in Dover, which officially kicked off last fall.
The recital was completely sold out and a host of parents, family members, and friends packed the entrance of the Schwartz Center prior to the start of the show. There were approximately 120 students who performed and the classes that were featured included Levels 1 and 2 Majorette, Hip Hop, Praise Dance, Level 1 Ballet and Jazz, and our “Mini Movements” for dancers ages 6 and under.
The commencement of the Dover recital was a blissful moment for MM Founder/Director Ms. Melody Hubert. She explained that expanding to that location has always been a dream.
“I am overwhelmed by the love and support received from the Dover community this past season,” she said. “I look forward to establishing a dance community that welcomes dancers from all walks of life and helps them discover their divine gifts and purpose.”
Hosting the show at the Schwartz Center was also a full-circle moment for Ms. Melody as the venue is owned and operated by Delaware State University, her alma mater.
“DSU has always encouraged us to ‘make our mark on the world’ and this is just the beginning of the mark that we plan to make in the Dover community through our program,” Ms. Melody said.
The Dover event was held one week following our Hockessin recital “Divine Timing,” which was hosted on Saturday, June 15th at Mitchell Hall in Newark. The close of both performances marks the end of a great year as we prepare for our eighth season.
